Big Sean announces August release of new album, 'Better Me Than You'

DETROIT — Big Sean has announced the release of "Better Me Than You," his first album in four years. The Detroit rapper's sixth studio set is due out Aug. 9, he announced early Friday.

"The pressure of life (being a new Dad, being an artist that’s growing, being a human in development etc.) and embracing it all led me to a lot of clarity on what i needed to focus on to find a piece of happiness," Sean wrote in a post on X. "The past few years making this album have been a journey to say the least, but l'm just glad we finally here."

The album announcement was accompanied by the release of a new single, "Yes."

"Better Me Than You" is Big Sean's first album since "Detroit 2," which was released in September 2020. The set debuted at No. 1 on Billboard's Top 200 album chart, his third consecutive album to top the Billboard tally, following "Dark Sky Paradise" (2015) and "I Decided" (2017).

The 36-year-old is also readying the release of his first book, "Go Higher: Five Practices for Purpose, Success, and Inner Peace," which is due out Oct. 8.

Big Sean performed at Michigan Central Station's grand reopening concert in June, and he was also part of the lineup of performers at the NFL draft in downtown Detroit in April.

He recently appeared on "Tobey," the second single released from Eminem's "The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce)."
