Why Matt Olson batting 5th could take Braves' offense to next level

While the Braves’ offense started to heat up right before the All-Star break, scoring four or more runs nine times out of their last 11 games before the break, Matt Olson still has been streaky. The Braves’ power hitting first baseman has a .229 average, .405 slugging percentage, .714 OPS, and has 13 home runs with 44 RBI going into the second half of the season.

Now, while no one expected Olson to duplicate the career year he had last season he is still without a doubt having a down year, but our very own Braves insider, reporter, and Host of From The Diamond Grant McAuley did put an idea out on The Morning Shift that could not only benefit Olson, but the entire Braves offense.

“Just dropping him down to five maybe switching him with Marcell, having that opportunity for Ozuna and Austin to hit back to back might be useful for a while in the same way that Riley and Olson have been in the last couple of years, but I don’t that there’s one big answer other than Matt Olson figuring it out.” McAuley said.

While dropping Olson down to five could help Olson “figure it out” faster that’s ultimately what it comes down to like Grant said, he has to figure it out, and there’s no reason to believe that he won’t, but the faster he figures it out the better off the Braves’ offense will be.
