Part of what's made the Dallas Cowboys offseason so frustrating is that not only have they not signed Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, or Micah Parsons to contract extensions but we also have not heard anything about how the process is going. It's been all crickets.

For the most part, Cowboys fans and media have been left in the dark as training camp peeks its head in the horizon as players are set to report to Oxnard, California on July 24th.

On Friday, The Athletic's NFL insider Dianna Russini changed the dynamic by reporting the Cowboys "are currently having positive conversations with Dak Prescott's agent as they are working to get a deal done."

Additionally, Cowboys' VP of player personnel Stephen Jones joined Russini's podcast and claimed he and Jerry are talking to Prescott directly as they navigate the negotiations with the quarterback.

""And then of course you have Dak who's obviously his resume speaks for itself," Jones told Russini and former NFL quarterback Chase Daniel. "I think he was second in MVP voting last year. He's just had an extraordinary career here in Dallas. Those things just take time when you're talking about the amount of money involved. And of course we're trying to a little bit play Houdini in how to keep all of these guys around Dak and keep these players we were fortunate enough to draft."

Although Jones' words don't really tell us much about how things are going between the parties, Russini's report on the Cowboys having positive talks with Prescott match what the quarterback said on his latest media availability session earlier in the summer.

"There's been conversations back and forth," Prescott said while explaining he's focused on football while letting his agent handle things. "The money and all will take care of itself as it always has."

Although there's not an official deadline to reach a new deal, one would assume once the regular season kicks off, Prescott's camp will shut down negotiations to focus on football en route to a lucrative free agency in 2025.

There should be a sense of urgency around Dallas as having a quarterback on a contract year is a dangerous game to play and an impossible one to win at when the player has all the leverage.
