Prospective Everton signing Jesper Lindstrom could be forced to answer some awkward questions by Toffees fans after it emerged he is actually a Liverpool fan .

The Danish attacking midfielder is set to join Everton this summer from Napoli on loan with an option to buy, according to reports in Italy. However, it seems the Toffees new man would much prefer to be playing in Red for Liverpool than the blue of Everton.

The 24-year-old previously claimed he rejected a move to Anfield - and his decision to reject a move to Merseyside meant turning down the chance to play for the team he supports. Lindstrom once said: "Liverpool wanted me, I am a Liverpool fan so it would’ve been a madly fascinating experience... but would it have been an intelligent move? I am at an age now where I have to play football."

The final line of Lindstrom's claim would make sense as to why he turned down Liverpool, who brought in a host of midfielders last summer to rejuvenate their engine room. Last summer, the Dane made the switch from Frankfurt to Napoli for $32 million, joining what was then the Serie A champions.

However, Napoli experienced a turbulent title defense, which saw them go through three managers in Rudi Garcia, Walter Mazzarri and Francesco Calzona. They finished 10th and missed out on European football entirely.

With Antonio Conte having recently been appointed Napoli boss, it would appear Lindstrom is out of the picture for the Italian, who favours utilising either a 3-4-3 or a 3-5-2, neither of which really suit the Danish international.
