Liverpool played a behind-closed-doors friendly against Championship side Preston North End on Friday with Arne Slot taking the chance to give some of his players a run-out and run the rule over them before heading to the United States.

Preston won the match 1-0 thanks to a goal from distance scored by Robbie Brady. The Reds stars who were involved got some important minutes under their belt as they continue to work towards full fitness.

Ben Doak had an early chance to shoot closed down while Mohamed Salah narrowly cleared the crossbar after a good cross from Kostas Tsimikas came in from the left. Harvey Elliott and Conor Bradley saw efforts from the edge of the box blocked.

Ryan Lowe's visitors opened the scoring against the run of play at the AXA Training Centre in Kirkby. Brady's shot flew past 22-year-old goalkeeper Viteszlav Jaros.

Luke Chambers hit a shot over the top from distance and Lewis Koumas went close when teed up by Tyler Morton. But Preston was able to hold firm and see out the result, winning by a goal to nil.

Liverpool will face Real Betis, Arsenal and Manchester United while they are in the US. The Reds will then return for a game against Sevilla at Anfield a week before their Premier League opener against Ipswich Town on August 17 at Portman Road.

Liverpool team first half: Jaros, Bradley, Van den Berg, Quansah, Tsimikas, Jones, Elliott, Szoboszlai (Endo, 33), Doak, Salah, Carvalho.
