Tiger Woods has extended an olive branch to Bryson DeChambeau at The Open, hinting at a thaw in their previously chilly relationship .

The golfing greats were once close before DeChambeau's switch to the contentious LIV Golf series, with Woods remaining a committed PGA Tour supporter.

Rumors swirled that Woods' irritation with DeChambeau reached a boiling point at the 2022 Masters, where DeChambeau's slow play reportedly caused delays for Woods and other players.

A birthday message from DeChambeau to Woods went unanswered, underscoring the strain between them.

However, signs of reconciliation have emerged as Woods recently offered congratulations to DeChambeau on his US Open victory.

As DeChambeau prepares for the Open Championship, he recognised the significance of the interaction: "It is the first communication [for a while]."

"I'm sure that winning two U.S. Opens definitely helped, I guess, for him coming up and saying congrats. I don't know what his position is, but it was very thoughtful, and I was appreciative of it."

DeChambeau has also warmed relations with Rory McIlroy , who experienced a crushing defeat at Pinehurst, paving the way for DeChambeau's second US Open win. McIlroy, missing out on his first major in a decade, swiftly exited the course, foregoing the usual congratulations and media commitments.

Nonetheless, McIlroy made amends by engaging with DeChambeau at Troon ahead of the Open. He shared:"I said hello to him and we talked. He said congratulations, so everything's great there. He's a fierce competitor."

"I know he's going to give the fans as much as he can this week. I'm going to be doing the same. We're going to be competing. Hopefully, it will be another good battle."

Despite ambitious plans for competition, Woods, McIlroy and DeChambeau may struggle to progress past the initial rounds at Troon.

All three experienced challenging starts - Woods recorded a disheartening eight-over-par 79, McIlroy wasn't far behind with a 78, while DeChambeau managed a mere 76 which included an impressive 55ft eagle on the 16th.
