Taking a break from hard news to provide a little chicken tender for the soul

Taking a break from hard news to provide a little chicken tender for the soul

You may have heard this past week that we broke some big news.

No, not that Donald Trump accepted the Republican Party nomination for president. Not that a Microsoft glitch caused a global tech meltdown. And no, not that "Palm Royale" got three Emmy Award nods.

On Tuesday, I announced the results of our weeklong taste test of fried chicken tenders served up by 10 Palm Beach County fast-food restaurants:

"Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) fired a shot across the bow of all other local fast-food purveyors of chicken tenders by launching a multimillion-dollar advertising blitz for its new tenders using the chain's original recipe.

But we — and by "we" I mean "me" — wondered whether this would be enough to knock off longtime local fast-food fan faves like Chick-fil-A and Bud's Chicken and Seafood, or popular newcomers like Raising Cane’s and Huey Magoos. We thought you might want to know too... "

It was a tough job, but someone had to do it. And I'm not going to reveal the winner here. You'll just have to go to the story and find out — as well as vote for your favorite.

In the midst of all of the hard news stories, we think you also enjoy a softie. A story that's just fun, and shows off our community in a good way. For example, I never knew there were so many local places to eat chicken tenders. We tested restaurants from Boca Raton to Royal Palm Beach to Lake Worth Beach to Palm Beach Gardens.

I hope you enjoy the story as much as I did. And don't forget to vote!

Meanwhile, below are some stories and photos from our staff from the past week... Check them out.

I hope you continue to support local journalism, and tell a friend about us.
