Glen Powell is paying tribute to Bill Paxton as Twisters get released in theaters.
'Twisters' Explodes To $10M+ In Previews - Box Office Friday AM Update
In a post on social media, Powell remembered the late Twister actor and tipped his hat to his Red Wing co-star.
“As we release Twisters into the world today, I just wanted to look up and tip my hat to the legend that is Bill Paxton,” Powell shared on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter. “A great friend of mine who saw poetry in the natural world. His boots are impossible to fill, but this life is all about chasing the greats.”
Powell shared a photo with Paxton to accompany the post. The actors shared credits in 2013’s Red Wing , a Western directed by Will Wallace which also starred Breann Johnson, Joelle Carter, Luke Perry and Frances Fisher.
Powell recently recalled filming Red Wing with Paxton, saying they became close friends during the shoot.
“I shot this movie called Red Wing years and years ago, and Bill and I became really close on that movie,” Powell said during an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert .

Powell noted that Paxton was “so passionate about the weather” since starring in Twister and would give weather reports, mirroring his character from the film.
The Top Gun: Maverick actor also said that Paxton provided “a lot of research from his Apollo 13 days” that he applied for his role in Hidden Figures . Powell also mentioned the trick that he learned from Paxton that he used while filming Twisters .
“As an actor, sometimes you have to shoot outdoors and you’re kind of squinting and whatnot and he taught me this trick that if you close your eyes and you look up at the sun, it warms your eyes up to the sun and you can open your eyes,” Powell said. “So while we were shooting Twisters , I was shooting outdoors the whole time so I’d used that trick my entire career since meeting Bill. And on Twisters, I really felt like every time I closed my eyes, I got to think of Bill, which was great .”
Powell stars in Twisters , a standalone sequel to the 1996 film which starred Paxton. Lee Isaac Chung directs the new disaster film, which also stars Daisy Edgar-Jones, Anthony Ramos, Brandon Perea, Maura Tierney, and Sasha Lane.
