(WJW) – The Ohio Department of Agriculture (ODA) issued an alert Friday about a product that’s being pulled from store shelves.

“Sergeant’s Nature’s Guardian, Flea and Tick Control, squeeze on for Cats and Kittens” was sold at Dollar Tree stores across the state, according to a press release.

The boxes say the active ingredients are lemongrass, clove and peppermint oils.

However, while the product is registered as a minimum risk pesticide product, testing from ODA inspectors found the product was contaminated with traditional flea and tick pesticide ingredients: Imidichloprid and Methoprene.

Products containing these ingredients have specific instructions on their use, which these misbranded boxes do not include.

ODA investigated after receiving a consumer complaint and is pulling registration for the product.

According to ODA, it has notified the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and is working with Dollar Tree to pull the product.

ODA tells FOX 8 anyone who has purchased the product can return it to the store.
