Charlize Theron has recently given some promising updates regarding the release of The Old Guard 2 . She originally starred in the franchise’s first outing in 2020, which turned out to be a huge success for Netflix. Plans for a sequel were announced shortly afterward but no release date was attached to the project. According to Theron, the second installment of the Greg Rukka comic book adaptation will be coming out soon.

In a recent interview with Variety , Theron gave multiple updates regarding the release of The Old Guard 2, while also shedding light on why the film has been delayed. She explained that even though the movie completed filming in 2022, structural changes in Netflix’s upper management resulted in the much-awaited sequel being held.

Theron stated, “We got kind of stuck in that and our post-production shut down, I think, five weeks into it.” The Academy Award winner then disclosed that the actors’ and writers’ strikes also played a major role in derailing the movie’s release schedule. Despite the roadblocks, Theron seemed to be certain about the sequel’s eventual premiere. She said, “They were going through a lot of changes, and I totally understand it. We finally picked it back up and I’m really excited about it.”

Charlize Theron’s updates regarding The Old Guard 2 echo her costar Matthias Schoenaerts’ comments. The Belgian actor had stated in an interview with Collider that the movie will “show up at some point.”

Theron seems to firmly believe in the quality of the sequel. “It’s really good,” she said. “It’s a really important film to us. I only wanted to do it if we could make it amazing. I really love this movie.”

Alongside Theron, Hollywood heavyweights such as Uma Thurman and Chiwetel Ejiofor are also set to star in The Old Guard 2. However, the exact release date for the film is still unknown, at the time of writing.
