The Dallas Cowboys have found a lot of success during the regular season under Mike McCarthy. For three straight seasons, the team has won 12 games, earning a playoff spot.

Alas, that regular season has not carried over into the postseason. The Dallas Cowboys drought of NFC Championship Games now sits at 28 consecutive seasons.

That is something Jerry Jones would assuredly love to see snapped this season. But, given the form they are entering training camp with, that could be a tall task.

Because of their salary cap situation, adding talent to the roster this offseason was a challenge. The team did lose some key contributors on both sides of the ball as a result of the salary crunch.

Offensively, there are major concerns with the running game. Tony Pollard left in free agency, signing a deal with the Tennessee Titans.

To replace him, the Dallas Cowboys brought back Ezekiel Elliott. He is the most experienced running back on the depth chart, but this could be the most underwhelming backfield in the NFL entering training camp.

Without a strong run game and offensive line, there are some questions about how quarterback Dak Prescott will operate. He plays better off a strong running game, and the lack of one is concerning.

The lack of a run game is one of the reasons that analyst Skip Bayless believes his Dallas Cowboys are in for a rough 2024 season. He has shared a massively disappointing prediction for how the season will go.

During a recent segment on UNDISPUTED on FS1, Bayless revealed that he is predicting the Dallas Cowboys will go 8-9 during the 2024 regular season.

If that prediction comes close to being true, you can be sure that some major changes will be made in 2025. Not only would their NFC Championship Game drought extend, they would miss the playoffs for the first time since the 2020 season.

McCarthy would likely be gone as head coach, and the team could be in the market for a new quarterback as well. A full teardown seems unlikely with Jerry Jones at the helm.

But a firm reset, getting the salary cap situation back in place, is certainly within the realm of possibilities.
