Simone Biles is on a winning streak. The pro athlete recently made history at the 2024 U.S. Gymnastics Championships and is gearing up for the 2024 Olympics in Paris. Not only that, but on July 17, the first two episodes of Simone Biles: Rising were released on Netflix and were met with immediate success, instantly launching the show into the number one slot. As of right now, only two episodes have been released, but the docuseries is set to have four parts, each spanning over one episode with the first two released before the Olympics .

The series follows Biles as she makes her decision to withdraw from the 2020 Olympics held in Tokyo, a decision that shook the world. During that Olympic season, Biles left the competition to focus on her mental health after suffering from a case of the “twisties,” a condition in which your body and mind fall out of sync in midair whilst performing, causing the gymnast to lose track of their position while in motion and creating a high risk for injury. Throughout the first two episodes, we follow Biles through her mental health recovery, learning more about her life behind all of the fame and glory, discussing family, interpersonal relationships, romance and more.

It’s no secret that since she skyrocketed to fame through her immense talent in the gymnastics space, the pressure has mounted. With a nickname like the “GOAT” (Greatest of All Time) and 37 Olympic and World Championship medals under her belt, it’s no wonder the athlete needed a moment to recover.

Thus far, the series has received quite a bit of praise and I don’t expect the hype to slow down. Netflix has confirmed that the last two episodes in the four part arc will be released this fall. I’m predicting that the second half will likely be focused on the aftermath of the 2024 Paris Olympics, honing in on Simone’s return to the world-wide stage, her performance at the games and whether she feels like she’s ready to make a full-fledged return to the iconic sport. Only time will tell how this story ends, but as for me, I’m hoping that Biles sticks the landing.
