ROCKY MOUNT — A global outage has interrupted N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles business services, including but not limited to driver license offices and license plate agencies throughout North Carolina, the NCDMV said on Friday.

The outage occurred when a software update by CrowdStrike apparently failed.

NCDMV will attempt to reach out to customers to reschedule appointments, according to a news release.

The Division of Motor Vehicles operates 115 driver license offices statewide. The 126 license plate agencies in North Carolina are operated by private businesses but are overseen by NCDMV.

The outage is also affecting some MyNCDMV.gov online services, officials said Friday afternoon.
