MERCER COUNTY, NJ – A global technology outage that has caused disruptions to travel, banking, hospitals and more has had a limited impact at the local or county level, Mercer County Executive Dan Benson said Friday afternoon. All Mercer County offices remain open.

As reported earlier by TAPinto, Cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike says Friday's outage happened when it deployed a faulty update to computers running Microsoft Windows. The company said that a fix was on the way.

Mercer County’s Office of Emergency Management (OEM) and Office of Information Technology (OIT) have been responding to this challenge, a statement from Benson’s office said, adding that some Mercer County computers and systems have been impacted by the outage and staff is actively working to bring them back online.

The County has not received reports of any Critical Services affected by the outage, at either the county or municipal level. The 911 system has remained fully operational at all times. Some Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) systems were temporarily impacted at the county and municipal level, but have been restored. Redundancies were in place to ensure that emergency dispatch services remained fully operational at all times.

Mercer County’s two major hospitals, Capital health and RWJ Hamilton, have both experienced some minimal interruptions to systems, but report that patient care has not been impacted, the statement said.

While Trenton-Mercer Airport has not reported any interruptions in their own systems, some flights have been canceled due to impacted systems at Frontier Airlines and at other airports around the nation.
