The New York Jets had major expectations in 2023 after acquiring Aaron Rodgers from the Green Bay Packers. Unfortunately, those expectations went by the wayside once he suffered a season-ending Achilles injury.

Without Aaron Rodgers in the lineup, the New York Jets’ offense was a mess. There were major issues beyond the quarterback position, but their signal-callers were underwhelming even when given the chance to produce.

As a result, general manager Joe Douglas brought in veteran Tyrod Taylor as the new backup quarterback. He is a huge upgrade on Zach Wilson, Tim Boyle and Trevor Siemian.

Alas, if the New York Jets want to reach the level they feel they are capable of, they need Aaron Rodgers in the lineup. Of course, risks exist with him as well.

Coming off a serious Achilles injury, he has gone essentially 20 months between game action. That kind of lay off is difficult for anyone to return from, let alone someone who will be 41 in December.

Alas, there are a lot of people who believe that Aaron Rodgers still has something left in the tank to offer. One of those people is Shanna McCarriston of CBS Sports .

She recently put together a piece predicting quarterbacks will exceed expectations and which will fall short. Cody Benjamin believes that Aaron Rodgers will exceed his.

“OK, so this is a tricky one, because on one hand, there’s a ton of pressure on A-Rod to finally live up to his Jets hype. Is it possible we’re actually underrating him a bit, though, considering he vanished from the scene due to injury in 2023, and is now widely considered more of an aging, risky, if big-name gamble?

With familiar stars like Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson drawing easy praise in the AFC, Rodgers is poised to surge back into the conversation of top-shelf signal-callers with his offensive line at least better stocked this time around,” Benjamin wrote.

Getting through the AFC is going to be a well-earned gauntlet for whichever team accomplishes it. If the New York Jets are going to have a chance to be the last team standing, they will need Aaron Rodgers returning to form.

For years, their shortcoming was not having a player capable of doing toe-to-toe with the upper-echelon quarterbacks in the league. The New York Jets certainly hope that is no longer the case with the future Hall of Famer under center.
