If you've been eyeing those rounded arched bookshelves online but can't quite afford to buy one brand new, then this is your lucky day. Here we have a creator showing us step by step how she transformed the versatile IKEA BILLY bookcase into the exact trendy shelf we've been seeing online. It's been living in our brains rent-free!

Since these types of pieces can cost hundreds of dollars brand new, this creator was determined to find a way to build it herself and of course her method involves an IKEA piece. That's the foundation of any good home DIY!

Watch below for the most impressive before and after.

If you ever see a furniture hack online, there's a 98% chance that the project is starting off with a piece of IKEA furniture. This one is no exception!

TikTok creator Juliana ( @nymeria_world ) is always down for a new DIY project and her page is proof that she can make just about anything she sets her mind to. A DIY side table made from plaster? Done. A total pantry renovation with her own hands? Obviously!

This time she takes her creative skills to the next level and designs her very own "trendy" modern bookcase, using just one IKEA piece as her base.

The soft-edged, rounded shelves have been a popular aesthetic for a while now and Juliana decided it was her turn to try and build one from scratch. Well, basically scratch. IKEA is always a necessary first building block.

How She Transformed the BILLY into Unique Sideways Display

Instead of putting together the entire shelf right away, Juliana just built the frame and the middle shelf before adding her regular shelves on vertically. She is creating a frame for her dramatic new design.

Next, she cut out rounded corners and frames from MDF and attached those to each end of the shelf to begin that arched look. She also added in some LED strip lights for a built-in light.

She filled in the gaping centers with more MDF and started the job of plastering over every nook and cranny. This started to give the piece that cement aesthetic that everyone loves.

Finally, she painted the entire piece white and added in two wooden shelves on either end. Gorgeous!

    She makes it look oh-so-easy.
