DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — Ohio Gov. DeWine is sending his request for federal assistance back to President Biden after being denied.

According to a release, the U.S. federal government denied the requested Presidential Disaster Declaration, which DeWine requested in June . DeWine’s request was the second PDD request, which would provide funding and resources for eight counties in eastern Ohio after disastrous storms occurred from April 1 to 4.

U.S. Sens. Sherrod Brown and J.D. Vance both urged the Biden Administration to approve the Governor’s request in June.

“I have determined that this incident is of such severity and magnitude that effective response is beyond the capabilities of the State and the affected local governments and that supplementary federal assistance is necessary,” said DeWine. “The greatest impact is damage to critical infrastructure in low tax revenue areas, making the expensive repairs needed with their own budgets not feasible.”

DeWine claims the estimated damage total for the eight counties is $33.8 million.
