After over two decades off, Kevin Costner returned to the director's chair for his self-funded passion project, a four-part Western titled Horizon: An American Saga . The franchise, which was co-written by, produced by and stars Costner, focuses on the American West both before and after the Civil War. A long-gestating labor of love, Costner fronted production costs with the hope it would be a success and he would recoup his money. Now you can watch the series.
The first two parts of the four-part saga have been completed with Horizon: An American Saga — Chapter 1 hitting theaters on June 28, 2024. That means it should arrive on streaming platforms shortly. Chapter 2 was slated to arrive in theaters in August, but after Chapter 1 's disastrous box office, the theatrical release has been postponed indefinitely. Many seem to think the series will head straight to Warner Bros.'s streaming platform Max, but that has yet to be announced.
Meanwhile, Chapter 3 is filming in Utah and Chapter 4 , the finale, is in pre-production. No word as to exactly what will happen with these later additions to the saga.
