Childish Gambino — Bando Stone & The New World

Childish Gambino is back and he says it’s for one last time. Donald Glover says this release, Bando Stone & The New World , will be his final drop under the well-known alias.

Chlöe, Flo Milli, Amaarae, Jorja Smith, Fousheé, Yeat, and Legend all lend their voices to the project. Glover also taps Ludwig Göransson, Michael Uzowuru, Dahi, Max Martin, and Steve Lacy among the LP’s producers.

It’s a new body of work, but Glover says the album closes a chapter in his life. “I always knew Childish Gambino was a character,” he told Hot Ones . “On some level, I wanted that to end. I feel like Childish Gambino is almost like the boss from The Office . It’s like, that worked 10 years ago. All that stuff worked, but now, it’s a different thing. The cycle kind of continues, which is great, I think.”

He also recently explained that the Gambino experience was no longer fulfilling to him. “It really was just like, ‘Oh, it’s done,’” he told the New York Times . “It’s not fulfilling. And I just felt like I didn’t need to build in this way anymore.”

Big Sean — “On The Radar Freestyle” & “Yes”

Before dropping his new album, Big Sean dropped some bars. The Detroit rapper hit On the Radar for a special freestyle over Aaliyah’s “If Your Girl Only Knew” beat. As fate would have it, this offering caused some commotion too.

“I had to switch the home team ‘cause they committed treason,” he raps on the track. “N——s looking for engagement like they got their knee bent / I got better things to do than find someone to beef with.”

Some speculated these bars could be about the Kendrick Lamar and Drake feud that dominated headlines this year. However, Sean and Lamar reportedly put any tension they may have had over their “Control” collaboration to bed a few years ago. Sean confirmed these lines weren’t about Kendrick, according to DJ and media personality DJ Hed.

Hed tweeted that the bars were for a “different Gemini,” leading to speculation that Ye was the intended target. Soon after, perhaps in retaliation or perhaps for an unrelated reason, someone apparently leaked a version of Sean’s forthcoming album online. “I’m a just start droppin this new music before they leak it all,” Sean teased on Instagram.

Following this, Sean did just that with his newest single, “Yes.” “I would rather give y’all my soul,” he raps on the new joint. “I don’t have to sell it / Might take a piss off your Mt. Rushmore after I scale it.”

    JT — City Cinderella

JT is taking her glass slippers down the solo path. After making a name for herself as one-half of the City Girls, Jatavia unleashes her debut solo project, City Cinderella .

DJ Khaled, Stunna Girl, CLIP, and Jeezy all appear on the 16-song offering. Take A Daytrip, Omer Fedi, OG Parker, Rogét Chahayed, and Clams Casino are among the project’s producers.

JT opens the album with a vulnerable anthem. “I’m still mad from 20 years ago / Wonder why my daddy gave my mama dope / Young, Black, and lost, but never lost hope,” she raps on the introductory cut.

“People talk about me like they know me, but they don’t,” JT says in a mini-doc . “They know JT, the City Girl but they don’t know me. It’s time I let y’all in. It’s time I tell you the real story because the person you thought you knew, that was all a lie.”

    Rob49 & Cardi B — “On Dat Money”

Rob49 continues to rise in the music industry while Cardi B keeps dropping buzz worthy collaborations. Now, the two link up on their new single, “On Dat Money.”

Rob’s verse is all about making love on top of cash. Taking the baton, Bardi delivers a second verse. “Up and down, make it clap, start applaudin’ / Turn around, bend it over, don’t be boring,” she raps. “Spread my legs, tongue out, I’m Michael Jordan.”

Cardi and 49 also teamed up for the song’s music video. It features a road trip scene and plenty of cash inside of a mansion.

This is a new collaboration, but Bardi says this is also a warm up for a new LP. “I couldn’t be happier with the obvious anticipation for my album,” she recently tweeted. “I don’t like to be told what [to do] but I promise you it’s coming this year. Thank you for the love and anticipation and always holding me down.”
