Have you ever looked out at your garden or the side of your house and just went... Ugh? And not just because the paint was faded or you really needed to get to mowing the lawn, but rather because of that ugly water hose you have just hanging there? It's like a snake that refuses to camouflage. Well, you're in luck because there is a quick and simple DIY, shared by TikTok creator Shandy of Down_Mulberry_Lane , that is an easy way to hide that coiled-up hose!
DIY Hose storage but make it ✨pretty✨Wanna make your own? 👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼 • I used leftover pressure treated 2x4’s for the frame & cedar fence pickets for the planks. Both of these are weather resistant making them perfect for this project! I drilled 1/2” holes in the bottom of each frame piece so I could add 12” rebar to keep so it’d be sturdy. Added a hose hanger to the back, hanging bracket to the front and a hanging basket. ✨🌺💧 She’s pretty and functional! . . . . #diygardendecor #outdoordiy #diyprojects #diygardenprojects #gardendiy #diygarden #easydiy #easydiydecor
First things first, gather your materials. You’ll need leftover pressure-treated 2x4’s for the frame and cedar fence pickets for the planks as well as some 12-inch rebar. Both of these are weather-resistant, making them perfect for this project.
Start by cutting your 2x4s to be about waist height, which means it really isn't too high or too low. This allows for several loops of a coiled-up water hose. Drill holes into the bottom before adding in the 12-inch rebar .
Why Do You Need Rebar For This Project?
The point of this hack is to hide your water hose , yes, but also to make something that will stand up to both the weight of the water hose and the constant pulling, tugging, and just overall wear and tear that we often don't think about. That means you can't just leave your frame standing around by itself, it needs something to help stabilize it and keep it upright - which is where the rebar comes into play.
Next, space these two frame pieces out so that they are wider than your coil of water hose. Then cut a third piece of 2x4 to match that width - that will be your top board that kind of helps tie everything together and tops it all off.
Now, cut some fence pickets to the outside width, making sure you have enough to cover the frame from top to bottom. To give you a rough idea, Shandy needed five vertically attached pickets to fill in her space. After everything is cut, use a nail gun to attach the pickets to the frame, leaving no gaps. ! Then attach the top 2x4 into place as well. You’re almost there—just a few more minutes, and you can call it a day.
Attach a hose hanger to the backside and a planter hanger to the front, then place it in your yard or beside your house, wherever your spout is. From there, simply drive the rebar into the ground by gently hammering or leaning on the top. Coil up your hose, hang a plant on the front hanger, and there you have it—no more unsightly garden hose just lying around! Instead, you have a chic, functional garden accessory that makes you look like you know your way around a toolbox.
And just like that, your garden looks fabulous, and you’ve added a piece that’s both functional and stylish.
