Biden can’t win voters over with pandering and pork ‘bribes’

President Joe Biden has tried to pander his way to reelection as he wrestles with his abysmal polling numbers. After all that trouble, his campaign is still floundering.

Biden’s previous attempts to pander to voters or use taxpayer dollars to win over certain constituencies have failed miserably. That includes his crusade to have taxpayers pay for people’s student debt, which has run into court challenges at every turn and ranks as the 16th most important issue out of 16 issues for young people as polled by Harvard. It also includes Biden’s embarrassing Gaza pier, which delivered barely any aid, with the little aid that arrived being taken over by Hamas, and then shut down after three weeks of operating at the cost of $230 million.

Others are crashing down now as well. Politico details two more examples, the first being “Biden has poured billions into Rust Belt economies. His ‘Blue Wall’ is crumbling anyway.” As it turns out, many of the people in those Rust Belt economies are not seeing the benefits of Biden’s spending because their wages and personal economic situations are not keeping up with inflation (which was caused in great part by that spending in the first place). Once again, Biden essentially tried to bribe voters with federal dollars, and once again it backfired.

The second one shows that other attempts at pandering have failed as well. “Nevada seemingly slips away despite Biden’s courting of Black, Latino voters” we are told , with Democratic voters and operatives sounding the alarm. Indeed, in the RealClearPolitics polling average , former President Donald Trump has led Biden in Nevada since the beginning of November 2023, with a 5.1-point lead since June.

As it turns out, “appealing to traditional gatekeepers” among black and Hispanic activists doesn’t improve people’s economic situations. Maybe Biden could try tokenizing more Cabinet officials and staff to really drive the point home.

Biden dug himself into a hole with his terrible political instincts, and it should be no surprise that he can’t use those instincts to dig himself out of it either. His attempts to bribe voters have failed or backfired, and his pandering comes across as insincere as it is. He put himself on the path to losing long before his awful debate performance, and his terrible instincts and failing policies are the reason why.
