San Bernardino County Fire Protection District Chief Dan Munsey was among five public safety leaders to receive the FirstNet Authority Patriot Award.
A public safety veteran of over 30 years, Munsey was recognized for his leadership skills in using FirstNet to make county communities safer, fire officials said.
Munsey serves as fire chief and fire warden of San Bernardino Fire, and chair of the International Association of Fire Chiefs Technology Council, working with his peers and the fire community to integrate technology into the fire service, FirstNet stated.
Established in 2023, the Patriot Award honors trailblazers in public safety for their innovative use of broadband technologies to protect and safeguard their communities.
The awards were presented by FirstNet Authority Executive Director and CEO Joe Wassel at the 5x5: The Public Safety Innovation Summit in June. The recipients represent emergency communications, emergency management, fire service, law enforcement, and national security public safety communities.
“I am honored to recognize these trailblazers from our public safety community," FirstNet Authority CEO Joe Wassel stated. "Through their leadership, they have delivered innovation and connectivity to many public safety agencies and individuals, enabling them to better serve their communities and help save lives.”
The FirstNet Authority is an independent entity within the U.S. Department of Commerce’s National Telecommunications and Information Administration.
