CHARLESTON, WV (WOWK) — There are more calls across the nation, including West Virginia, for President Joe Biden to withdraw from his reelection bid.

Many are concerned he’s putting other political races in jeopardy. Some national Democrat party leaders have spoken to the president privately, to at least entertain the idea of stepping away from renomination and say he’s more open-minded about it. But he still hasn’t budged.

Democratic member of West Virginia House calls for Biden to drop out of presidential race: ‘It’s time’

For the first time publicly, President Biden’s campaign manager has acknowledged there is a “slippage” in the president’s Democrat supporters and campaign donations.

Nationally, Sen. Jon Tester (D-MT) has called on Biden to withdraw. Tester’s Senate seat, along with two in West Virginia and Ohio, are seats Republicans are trying to flip to take control of the Senate.

Then, Del. Kayla Young (D-Kanawha) called on Biden to drop out.

Many political analysts believe President Biden will eventually step away from re-nomination.

“Republicans are in a position to not only take over the presidency, but both houses of Congress unless the Democrats take charges and escort the president off the stage,” said Professor Emeritus Robert Rupp, of West Virginia Wesleyan College.

Those calling for the president to drop out say he needs to decide soon, so Democrats can choose amongst Vice President Kamala Harris or several other lawmakers who’ve expressed interest in the nomination. The Democratic National Convention is August 19 to 22 in Chicago.
