Say goodbye to Netflix’s popular $11.99 basic plan: The streaming platform announced that it is phasing out its lowest-priced ad-free subscription plan in the U.S.

The news came Thursday (July 18) via a letter to shareholders. Netflix stopped offering the basic plan to new subscribers last summer, but allowed current customers to remain on the subscription as long as they didn’t switch plans or cancel.

    Current available plans include:

    • $6.99 Monthly option with ads on 2 supported devices at a time and download on 2 supported devices at a time
    • $15.49 Monthly standard HD video quality plan (no ads) download videos on 2 supported devices at a time (option to add 1 extra member who doesn’t live with you for $7.99 monthly)
    • $22.99 premium Ultra HD 4K plan (no ads); and download on 6 supported devices simultaneously; Option to add up to 2 extra members who don’t live with you for $7.99 monthly

“Essentially, we’re providing them a better experience: two streams versus one. We’ve got higher definition. We got downloads. And, of course, all at a lower price,” Netflix co-CEO Greg Peters said during a videoconference. “And for members who don’t want that ads experience, they, of course, can choose our ad-free Standard or Premium plans.”
