Dwyane Wade Makes Painful Admission About His Time With Jimmy Butler

NBA fans will always remember Dwyane Wade as a Miami Heat legend, but there were a couple of seasons during his 16-year career when he ventured elsewhere.

Wade, who many assumed would remain with the same team his whole career, ultimately felt disrespected by the Heat's offer when he was a free agent. He took that as an opportunity to not only earn more money elsewhere, but suit up for his hometown Chicago Bulls in 2016. The two-year deal was worth around $47 million, but his tenure in Chicago didn't go how he had hoped.

As a part of their efforts to blow up what was a disastrous big three with Wade, Rajon Rondo, and Jimmy Butler, Wade was bought out by the Bulls and eventually signed with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Another venture that didn't quite work out for him as he ultimately was traded back to where it all began; Miami.

However, it was his time with Chicago that he seemed to regret the most when making an appearance on 7PM in Brooklyn with Carmelo Anthony and Kid Mero. Wade expressed that he didn't do a good enough job mentoring young players, specifically, Jimmy Butler.

When speaking about his time in Chicago, Wade said his behavior likely taught Butler some "bad habits".

“I set a bad precedent, I apologize,” Wade said . “Jimmy Butler was on that team, so he probably picked up some bad habits from me. I was old, I was like ‘man, I get to live the NBA experience, I was a military baby for 14 years, I got one year to get out and stretch my arms,' I was like I’m about to take advantage. So I really wasn’t a good vet to those guys man, I apologize. It wasn’t about y’all it was about me, so I apologize.”

Wade touched on what could have led to this, which appears to be his personal decline in performance. While he was still obviously an elite basketball player, he wasn't at the level he wanted to be anymore.

“I got to enjoy it when I wasn’t good anymore, but I still had my status but I wasn’t that good no more to my standards, I’m not talking about the average basketball standards,” Wade said. “I still could hoop, but to my standards, I was like ‘alright, you ain’t him no more but I still got my status, so let me use this card.'”

While it would have been fascinating to see Butler and Wade team up in their primes, we never quite got to see either of them at their peak powers. Butler got better once he left the Bulls, and now he is trying to follow in Wade's footsteps and bring a title to Miami.
