BECKLEY, WV (WVNS) – Raleigh County Parks and Recreation Authority is hosting something special on Saturday, July 20th and Sunday, July 21st.

“Beach Blast” is set to be hosted at Lake Stephens.

UPDATE: Fayette County 911 outage now resolved

Festivities will start at 9 a.m. on Saturday, July 20th with the Finns Up 5k.

Other events include a hula hoop contest, pie eating contest, tug-of-war tournament, and more.

Molly Williams, Executive Director of Raleigh County Parks and Recreation Authority, said this has been tradition for a while.

“We’ve been having the beach blast at Lake Stephens for quite some time. I’ve been here for six years and they had it even before I got here. So, it’s something, just part of summer, part of enjoying the outdoors, enjoying the lake. It’s just a big party at the lake,” said Williams.

On Sunday, July 21st, gospel singers will participate in ‘Praise in the Park’ as well, an event where participants can worship as a group.

Williams told 59News that this event is for everyone and it is a time for the community to partake in religion together.

“We want to have fun, we want to enjoy each other, we wanna enjoy the beach, and what we have there. It’s just a good time for the community to get together and enjoy the lake, enjoy each other, enjoy the bounce houses, enjoy the games, and the gospel singers to have a good time,” said Williams to 59News.
