PUTNAM COUNTY, WV (WOWK) – The Putnam County Fair is offering a true farm-to-table experience for those interested in buying from the livestock auction.

The fair’s annual Livestock Auction is underway this Friday night. The kids who participate, also known as exhibitors, raise their animals and auction them off to buyers.

The funds raised go back to the exhibitors, and many of these children use the money for personal expenses, such as education. Livestock Chair Janice Luikart says that this teaches kids personal responsibility and that the overall experience is a part of the circle of life.

“Every kid that comes in here is so excited to be here. It’s so exciting to see the look on their faces even when they’re a little nervous,” says Luikart.

Participating exhibitions have been able to graduate from college, debt-free because of this program. The fair ends Saturday with a fireworks display.
