Passaic County officials announced more than $3 million in grants this week for park development and historic preservation projects.
Set to be finalized by the Board of County Commissioners following a public hearing this September, the grants are due to help fund projects in 14 of the county's 16 municipalities. Awards range from $100,000 for improvements at Hershfield Park in Pompton Lakes and the baseball fields at Dotterweich Field in Wayne to $250,000 for Wayne's restoration of the Van Duyne House.
Funding for the 16 projects comes from the county's Open Space, Farmland, and Historic Preservation Trust Fund Program. Established following voter approval in 1996, the program aims to create a network of protected open spaces, enhance the natural environment and preserve historic and recreational resources.

The grant awards have been recommended by the county program's advisory committee, which reviewed a pool of applications from municipalities and nonprofits. They are set to be finalized after a public hearing scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 10 at 5:30 p.m. at the County of Passaic Administration Building.
