    What are North Jersey's priciest ZIP codes? Here are the top five

    For $22.5 million, you could buy Nascar legend Tony Stewart's 415-acre Hidden Hollow Ranch in Indiana, completed with a 8,700-gallon, two-story freshwater aquarium; a 1,500-gallon stream filled with a koi fish; a waterfall; and two separate buildings on the property for a guest house and a workshop.

    Or, for the same price, you can get yourself a single home in Alpine.

    As we enter the second half of the year, 55 New Jersey towns have typical home values that exceed $1 million. And nine towns are well above that metric, boasting typical home values of more than $2 million.

    This is according to recent data from Zillow's Home Value Index, which tracks the typical home value in ZIP codes across the country each month. So which North Jersey ZIP codes reign supreme for having the priciest home values at this point in 2024? Three Bergen County communities, as well as one each from Morris and Essex counties, make up North Jersey's five most expensive ZIP codes so far this year.

    No. 1: Alpine

    Alpine's 07620 has famously been one of the state's most expensive ZIP codes for as long as most of us can remember, and that's no different in 2024. As the overall most expensive ZIP codes in North Jersey, and No. 2 in the state behind Deal's 07723, Alpine it known for luxurious homes, a lack of local services and a number of high-profile residents, such as Ilya Kovalchuk, Stevie Wonder, Wesley Snipes, Chris Rock and more.

    As of June 30, the typical value of a home in Alpine was estimated at $2.99 million, and the priciest properties currently for sale there include a $22.5 million mansion on Rio Vista Drive and an $18 million mansion on Closter Dock Road.

    No. 2: Short Hills

    Short Hills' 07078 ranked as the No. 2 most expensive ZIP in North Jersey, and the No. 5 most expensive ZIP code in the state. Similarly to Alpine, Short Hills offers grand homes and spacious properties near New York City, but the ZIP also has more commercial and shopping locations available, as well as local services.

    The typical value of a home in this Essex County suburb was estimated to be $2.14 million, as of the end of June. Currently, the priciest properties on the market in Short Hills are a $5.25 million mansion on Farley Road and a $4.95 million mansion on Hartshorn Drive.

    No. 3: New Vernon

    Despite being the smallest ZIP code on this list by far, which a population of less than 900 residents, New Vernon's 07976 ranked as the third priciest ZIP in North Jersey, and the No. 9 most expensive ZIP in the state. In addition to homes with hefty price tags, the 3.56-square-miles of New Vernon is known for its abundance of historic sites and outdoor activities in Morris County.

    At the end of June, the typical value of a home here was estimated to be about $2.01 million. And because of this ZIP code's population, there typically aren't many homes on the market at a time. Currently, But currently, the priciest properties for sale in New Vernon are a $7.8 million mansion on Village Road and a $2.85 million mansion on Pleasantville Road.

    No. 4: Englewood Cliffs

    Ranking as the fourth most expensive ZIP code in North Jersey and No. 14 overall in the state, Englewood Cliffs' 07632, situated along the Hudson River, is known for its luxurious homes and amenities. Having the second-smallest population on this list with more than 5,000 residents, Englewood Cliffs provides an easy commute to New York City, views of the city skyline and several riverfront parks.

    The typical value of a home here is about $1.55 million, as of the end of June. Right now, the priciest properties for sale in Englewood Cliffs include a $5.2 million newly-built mansion and a $4.7 million estate, both on Summit Street.

    No. 5: Franklin Lakes

    Franklin Lakes' 07417 is the fifth-most-expensive North Jersey ZIP code and No. 15 overall in the state. With a population of nearly 11,000 residents, Franklin Lakes is one of the quieter Bergen County neighborhoods on the list. This ZIP is known for providing residents with upscale and luxurious homes in a more spacious, quiet environment.

    At the end of June, the typical value of a home in Franklin Lakes was about $1.48 million. And the priciest properties that are currently for sale there include a $7.36 million mansion on High Mountain Road and a $5.75 million mansion on Navaho Trail Drive.
