Somerset County 4-H has named its 2024 award recipients.

    Outstanding 4-H Members

    • Genevieve Benbow
    • Veronica Dryl
    • Tatiana Hlinka

    Outstanding 4-H Alum

    • Cary Brochinsky
    • James Meier

    Outstanding 4-H Volunteers

    • Jim Gaudet
    • Steve Miholics

Outstanding Member recipients must have completed their junior year of high school and be active in the Somerset County 4-H program.

Benbow has been working with 4-H for nine years, holding multiple officer positions and becoming the first recipient of the Dawn Christy Memorial Market Lamb Award.

Dryl joined 4-H in 2012 finding her passion in the Crazy Frog Hoppers Double-Dutch club. She spoke at the National 4-H Conference and will be attending Seton Hall University this fall.

Hlinka is a newer member of 4-H joining around the pandemic. She became a NJ 4-H Teen Pollinator Ambassador and is currently working on a research paper in public health studies with a Rutgers professor.

Outstanding Alum recipients are former members who are still connected to the organization in an impactful way.

Brochinsky has been involved with 4-H since he was young and was a 2015 Outstanding Member. He serves on the sustainability and spring carnival committees and was crucial in planning this year’s carnival.

Meier was also an Outstanding Member in 2015 and he now volunteers at many different 4-H events. He is an active member of the Pole Barn Crew and assists with logistics for the fair.

Outstanding Volunteer recipients have taken the time to help out at 4-H workshops, programs, events and more.

Gaudet began to volunteer for 4-H when he attended the fair more than eight years ago with his children. Since then, he has become a leader of a couple of different clubs and the 4-H Association President.

Miholics started to volunteer in 1993 when both his wife and son joined 4-H. As a family, they participated in the NJ State 4-H International Exchange Program and Micholics often volunteers his carpentry skills for the fair.
