"We need to win right now, not in a couple of years" - When Vince Carter wanted the Raptors to get rid of Chris Bosh in 2003

Each time the Toronto Raptors franchise is mentioned, Vince Carter remains a name synonymous with them. The 5th overall pick of the 1998 Draft was an instant sensation for the team, turning things around in his second year for the franchise.

"Vinsanity" took it up a notch in the 1999-2000 season, leading the team to its first-ever NBA playoff appearance. Unfortunately, the efforts of the former Rookie of the Year were not enough, as the Raptors failed to advance past the first round.

The best Carter could do was lead Toronto to the Eastern Conference semifinals in the 2000-01 season. But somehow, Vince and the Raptors missed a key player — a big man.

    Carter doubted Bosh

In 2003, the Raptors took in Chris Bosh as their pick in the Draft. However, Carter felt that Georgia Tech's product was not the right guy to address the team's needs, stressing that Toronto needed to start winning games at the time.

"I would prefer to trade him and get a veteran," Carter said to the Dayton Beach News-Journal via UPI . "We need to win right now, not in a couple of years. We need experience."

It was understandable that Carter had doubts. Bosh weighed only 210 pounds and was only 19 years old. Despite those odds, the CB4 made a good account of himself in the pre-draft workouts that left scouts raving.

Regardless, Carter wanted someone who was tested to fill their center position needs. Names such as Raef LaFrentz, Stromile Swift, and the late Eddie Griffin popped up. Regardless, the Raptors stuck with Bosh, and the 6'11" would blossom into one of the big stars in the league.

    Vince changed teams

Carter was later traded to the New Jersey Nets in the 2004 season. Bosh, on the other hand, continued his ascent after four seasons. However, the best the Texas native could do was lead Toronto to a couple of first-round playoff appearances (2007 and 2008).

Bosh would also leave Toronto, moving to the Miami Heat to team up with Dwyane Wade and LeBron James. Although he needed to adjust his game, Chris remained efficient under the watch of head coach Erik Spoelstra. This resulted in two NBA titles (2012 and 2013).

In all, Carter and Bosh took different paths to pro basketball stardom. Both racked up one individual accolade after another in their prime. But if there is one thing that Chris owns that Vince doesn't have, it would be the two NBA rings on his fingers.
