Lewisburg, Pa. — This August, Gallery 255 will feature a captivating, one-of-a-kind exhibition featuring the works of Nancy Cleaver, Donna Spangler, and Della Hutchinson.

Donna Spangler is a master artisan recognized by the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsman. She brings 18th century Pennsylvania German fraktur to the modern age. Just like the old days when pieces were crafted to commemorate special family moments, Spangler's creations include family trees, birth announcements, and inspirational verses. To a casual observer, her meticulous drawings of birds and floral scrolls and flowing calligraphy look just like antiques.

Speaking about her work, Spangler notes, "Fraktur has become, for me, so much more than just art and history. It is a way to connect generations and preserve cherished memories."

Della Hutchison's part of the exhibit explores medieval book art. A self-taught calligrapher, Hutchison receives inspiration from medieval scribes and illuminators. She hosts hands-on classes and lectures on the subject.

Like Spangler, Hutchison's medieval-style creations could easily be mistaken for preserved pieces of centuries-old treasures. Every stroke of a quill is a testament to her devotion to preserving and sharing the artistry of the Middle Ages.

Hutchison remarks: "Each page I create connects us with anonymous artists from the past, whose work continues to inspire in our modern, digital age."

Rounding out the exhibit is the calligraphy of Nancy Cleaver. Her elegant "Benedictions" collection expresses themes of care, compassion, and healing through art and writing. She draws from a variety of world religions, traditions old and new, and reflections on kindness and connection.

Her letter styles range from formal and historic to playful and original, reflecting the diverse spirit of her profound messages.

Reflecting on her lifelong dedication to letters and their expressive power, Cleaver shares, "For me, calligraphy is a journey of exploration and expression. 'Benedictions' has been a labor of love, offering solace and growth to both myself and those who experience these blessings."
