Disneyland Paris sets a Guinness World Record with the largest aerial display of a fictional character using drones.
The drone light show featured a Mickey Mouse head which was composed of 1,571 drones. It was supported by drone show technology provider Dronisos.
Disney Parks are renowned for their unique entertainment, particularly nighttime spectaculars with impressive visuals and special effects.
Record-breaking Bastille Day celebration
Continuing with the same spirit Disneyland Paris organized a rare night-time show. They celebrated Bastille Day with a record-breaking drone show featuring the largest aerial display of a fictional character formed by drones. 1,571 drones were used to create the Mickey Mouse head, earning them the prestigious Guinness World Records title.
Additionally, the 12-minute show highlighted French-inspired Disney stories. They showcased the French culture like Eiffel Tower and Notre Dame Cathedral, as well as scenes from Disney and Pixar films, such as “Beauty and the Beast,” “The Hunchback of Notre Dame,” “Sleeping Beauty,” “The Aristocats,” and “Ratatouille.”
Matthieu Robin, Disneyland Paris’ entertainment creative lead, commented , “It’s a testament to the creativity, innovation, and hard work of our entire team. This achievement underscores our commitment to delivering unforgettable experiences to our guests”.
Following the Bastille Day fireworks, Disneyland Paris continues to entertain guests with the Disney Electrical Sky Parade, first introduced in January 2024. The parade features over 500 drones synchronized with lasers, video projections, lights, and fountains, set against the backdrop of the Sleeping Beauty Castle.
Apart from this, floats representing beloved icons from the Main Street Electrical Parade, such as Mickey Mouse and his friends’ train, Elliott the dragon from “Pete’s Dragon,” and Cinderella’s carriage, are showcased in the night sky.
Drones enhance entertainment and safety at theme parks
Most entertainment parks have been using drones to create a magical atmosphere. They mostly use drones during the night-time shows and parades to fetch more and more visitors.
One of the unique features of drones is that they are equipped with LED lights, which help create various shapes, images, and animations in the sky. Entertainment agencies have been leveraging drone technology to give special characters a specific mold, prepare unique scenes, and write messages in the air, to leave the guests with a breathtaking experience.
Besides entertainment, drones can also help in practical applications like maintenance and security. Drones can provide aerial surveillance and inspection capabilities, ensuring safe park operations and efficiently monitoring large areas.
Disneyland’s adoption of drones signifies their utilization of cutting-edge technology for both entertainment and safety.
In the future, Disneyland plans to be more innovative with drone technology. They might include developments like drone swarms which could help create more complex and dynamic displays and enhance the future of storytelling.
