    Gloucestershire: Public told not to approach offender Gary Rootham as manhunt enters second day

    Police have warned the public not to approach an offender who has escaped from Gloucestershire prison.

    A manhunt has started for Gary Rootham who was last seen at about 4.50pm on Friday by staff at HMP Leyhill.

    Rootham was serving sentences for driving, robbery and burglary, Avon and Somerset Police has said, when he absconded.

    "If you see Rootham, please don't approach," an Avon and Somerset Police spokesperson said.

    At his last sighting, captured on CCTV, he was wearing a dark Nike polo shirt, dark jogging bottoms and black trainers with white soles.

    He is 5ft 11 and has short brown hair, and no beard.

    He has links to Reading and Cornwall.
