Do you know someone who works in public safety that needs recognition for their work? The Boone County Office of Emergency Management is taking nominations now through July 31 for the fourth annual Tom S. Hurley Public Safety Service Award.

Hurley passed away unexpectedly in 2019 while serving as director of the Office of Emergency Management. The award is given in his honor and seeks to recognize an individual, agency or organization which embodies the qualities and spirit he embodied: helpfulness, initiative, altruism and humility, OEM said in a news release.

A nine-member committee made up of first responders, nonprofit volunteers, health care leaders, elected officials, county administrators, Tom Hurly Award Fund board members and representatives of the Hurley family will select the recipient during a meeting in August.

Award presentation of a plaque and a $500 prize will happen at the fourth annual Boone County Ready Festival on Sept. 12 at Columbia Cosmopolitan Recreation Area.

A nomination form is available at tomhurley.org. More information the award is available through the OEM's page on the Boone County website.
