A cat and mouse found themselves in the typical game but no one expected how it would turn out, and now we're laughing.

On July 17, 2024, ABC News shared a video of a cat-and-mouse game that was completely unexpected. Take a look!

In a quick 40-second clip, we're in the yard outside, and there's a black and white cat on the grass and a mouse.

It's not clear at first what's going on because the cat and mouse are really close to each other. But it's clear that the cat wants to get the mouse, and the mouse really wants to get away. And only one of those two things happened.

"Mouse stands up to the cat and escapes," the title of the video reads. The mouse starts to move, trying to get around the cat, but the cat is alert and on the ready. Just as the mouse was about to get past, the mouse quickly turned towards the cat and started jumping up in the cat's face.

The cat was not impressed and jumped up and tried to get away.

The mouse quickly ran into the bushes to hide from the mouse, but the black and white cat was right on his tail. The cat lost the mouse when it went into the bushes but that didn't stop the feline from trying to catch the mouse still.

There's a moment where it looks like the cat has found the mouse and that's confirmed when the mouse runs at the cat all over again, jumping up on his feet and scaring the cat.

"A particularly brave mouse didn't back down when a cat confronted it at a home in Belgium," the video's caption reads, "leaping and screaming at the ferocious feline before making its escape."

In the comments, people were not expecting this result either.

One person joked, "She said I got kids to get home too!"

Another shared, "Tom and Jerry, IRL."

Someone else added, "Jerry had enough BS."

A TikTok user wrote, "Mouse won this cat and mouse game!"

And another shared, "Proof right here that size doesn’t matter."

Is It OK to Let Our Cats Chase or Get Rid of Mice?

According to PetCareRx , it's not great to let your cat chase mice, and it's a bad idea to allow cats to eat one.

" Cats can be effective in getting rid of mice due to their natural instinct to hunt and catch mice. Household cats and domestic cats can deter mice from entering your home by marking their territory with cat urine, which mice tend to avoid," they explain.

Adding that sometimes just having a cat at home can scare mice away but they "may not completely solve a mouse infestation."

And letting your cat eat what they catch can be really bad for their health.

"While it is part of a cat's natural behavior to eat mice, it's not recommended to let your cat eat mice due to potential health risks," PetCareRX states.

"Mice can carry parasites, bacteria, and diseases like Lyme disease, which can harm your cat. To keep your pet safe, it's best to discourage them from eating their catch and provide them with a balanced diet of cat food."
