Gender-neutral names are becoming more and more popular with parents-to-be.

But one pregnant woman was shocked to find the name she wants to give her daughter is considered a man's name . The new mom wants to name her daughter after Stevie.

The name is not in honor of iconic Seventies singer Stevie Nicks but as a tribute to author Robert Louis Stevenson who wrote Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde.

Posting on Mumsnet , she said: “I have two children called Louis and Robyn. My husband is a Robert Louis Stevenson lover, though the names of our children are coincidental.

“And he thinks it would be funny to name our daughter, due in November, Stevie as a funny little homage to his favorite author.

“While I have names I prefer, Stevie is growing on me. I don't know how common it is as a girl’s name and I don't want her to be bullied.”

Other parents discouraged the pregnant mom from naming her daughter Stevie. They said her little girl would

One said: “Stevie is hideous. Steve is bad enough for a man.”

Another added: “No one is going to meet her and know she is named after a male author. They're going to wonder why you gave her a boy's name or what it is short for.”
