Liverpool considers teenage alternative to Leny Yoro after Man Utd transfer

Liverpool is considering a swoop for another teenage center-back following the disappointment of missing out on Lille sensation Leny Yoro to Manchester United .

The Reds remain keen on adding another defender to their already impressive ranks this summer and reports suggest that Arne Slot may have found an immediate alternative to Yoro - and a move could be imminent.

According to Italian outlet Tuttosport , Liverpool is eyeing up 19-year-old Juventus center-back Dean Huijsen, who spent the second half of last season out on loan at fellow Serie A side Roma. The report claims that the Turin-based outfit are keen to raise transfer funds this summer and could be willing to let the teenager leave for a fee.

It's also added that Bayern Munich , RB Leipzig, Newcastle United and Paris Saint-Germain have asked for further information on the defender, meaning Liverpool may have to fight off plenty of competition should it wish to pursue a move.

Juventus are said to be holding out for $32m (£25m) for the teenager, which is more than half the fee Man United paid for Yoro this week. Should Liverpool manage to pull off a deal, it would be paying far less for a defender who may be just as capable of slotting into the first XI.

Born in the Netherlands, Huijsen is a current youth international for Spain and made his debut for the U21's earlier this year. He is yet to make a real breakthrough for Juventus, despite making his debut in October as a late substitute against AC Milan in a 1-0 victory at the San Siro.

In January, he signed a deal with Roma which would see him spend the remainder of the 2023-24 campaign on loan in the Italian capital. Huijsen was instantly thrown into the first-team picture and hit the ground running, scoring two goals in his first seven games for the club.

The second of those goals was particularly special, with Huijsen carrying the ball from his own half, bypassing a few opponents and unleashing a stunning strike from outside the area to open the scoring in a 3-0 victory away to Frosinone in February.

The center-back finished the campaign with 14 appearances in all competitions as Roma finished sixth in Serie A and secured Europa League football for the following season. However, it is his two goals that stood out as it highlighted his attacking prowess, despite being a defender.

Huijsen has previously notched 18 goals in 71 appearances for Juventus' youth sides, which is a remarkable achievement for a center-back. Should Liverpool opt to snap him up ahead of the new campaign, it will at least know they have another attacking threat in its side.
