CULLMAN, Ala. – The Cullman County Commission at its meeting on July 16 recognized the Cullman County Parks and Recreation team for its efforts during the recent Fourth of July and Bassmaster Classic Tournament events held at Smith Lake Park.

“I want to thank the parks staff and Kenneth Cornelius our (Cullman County Parks and Recreation) director for all the hard work you and your staff have done,” said Cullman County Commission Chairman Jeff Clemons.

The department was responsible for hosting the 2024 TNT Fireworks Bassmaster Elite on June 27 and the Independence Day celebration at Smith Lake Park on July 4.

Clemons added, “Also, the fireworks festival July the Fourth – I was there helping the County. We had a big crowd and there was a lot of work that went into that.”

Cornelius shared details of the work that went into both events.

Speaking of the Fourth of July festival, Cornelius said, “The biggest thing I want to make sure everyone understands is this was a whole park effort – the parks and rec department, there was two from the (Cullman County Agricultural Trade Center) staff came, two from Sportsman (Lake) came. Four staff from Stony Lonesome came that day and left two (employees) at Sportsman to man the whole park by themselves to be able to have that number of people there. Our parks staff, without them – I mean, being on the job a little over a month, I depended on them to get it all done and help to complete the task.  We did that with flying colors and I think everyone had a happy and safe Fourth of July.”
