Good afternoon everyone. We have a lot going on in the Southeast and parts of the Midwest, but the Northeast is very quiet as they get a break from the ongoing heatwave. A mix of sun & clouds will be the theme for the weekend and the entire workweek, with the slight chance of a popcorn shower or storm each day into Monday. Humidity returns in a big way, and we'll see a better chance of showers and storms Tuesday through Thursday throughout the Northeast & New England.

The Southeast/Mid-Atlantic is the big story going right now. Widespread pockets of heavy showers and storms continue with the help of a tropical-airmass locked in across the region and the Gulf Coast as well. At the time of this article, we are seeing these showers and embedded storms ranging from parts of Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, the Florida Panhandle, and into lower Mississippi. What's important about this, is that these areas are drought-stricken and getting much needed rain.

    SEVERE WEATHER OUTLOOK

While we won't see any widespread severe weather today, there are still some pockets of concern as far as marginal risk. Heavy showers and embedded thunderstorms could reach severe limits in areas of the Southeast and Midwest. The Midwest will see a better chance of some of these storms reaching severe limits, but areas of Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, southeast Virginia, and northeast Florida, could see some isolated action as well.

The biggest risk with these storms will be winds in excess of 55mph, hail, frequent lightning, and torrential rain. An isolated tornado cannot be ruled out as well, esepcially in the Midwest. In areas experiencing drought conditions, flooding is our primary concern due to the dry soil and quick runoff.

Here is your local NYC Metro forecast -

Look for a mix of sun & clouds today, warm conditions, and the slight chance of a PM popcorn shower. Highs today will be in the mid 80's. Tomorrow, we go back to very warm/hot conditions, with again, the slight chance of a PM popcorn showers. Highs will be in the upper 80's to near 90.

Your workweek on Monday starts off with a carbon-copy day of tomorrow. Then on Tuesday, we dial up the humidity more, another mix of sun & clouds, and a better chance of PM showers and storms. HIghs will be back into the mid 80's.

Wednesday gives us the best chance of showers and storms, very warm and humid conditions, and highs in the mid to upper 80's.
