Dane County Humane Society unveils new 100-foot flight pen

MADISON, Wis. -- The Dane County Humane Society's Wildlife Center announced Tuesday it unveiled a new, 100-foot solar flight pen for large birds.

The DCHS said the flight pen will enable the Wildlife Center to provide proper recovery and rehabilitation for large birds by helping to restore muscle tone, improve strength and conditioning, and exercise maneuvers necessary for survival once released back to their wild habitat. DCHS will no longer need to transfer large raptors, such as hawks, eagles, and owls, to other facilities to receive care.

The DCHS said three grants awarded to the Wildlife Center helped fund the ground-mount PV solar flight pen and add solar panels to the main building, reducing the facility's carbon footprint. The Wildlife Center receives no federal or state funding and relies on donor support to fund operations.
