The men's 100-meter at the 2024 Paris Olympics just got more heated.

Team USA sprinter Noah Lyles ran away from the field in the 100 at the London Diamond League on Saturday, setting a personal-best time at 9.81 seconds heading into the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Per World Athletics , that's the third-fasted time in the 100 this year. Kenya's Ferdinand Omanyala ran a 9.79 in Nairobi at the Kenyan Olympic Trials on June 15, bested by Jamaican Kishane Thompson on June 28 at the Jamaican trials in Kingston when he finished the 100 in 9.77 seconds.

Thompson, in particular, is a significant threat to Lyles' pursuit of a gold medal in the 100.

He appeared to ease up before reaching the finish line at the Jamaican Olympic Trials, suggesting he could improve his time in Paris.

Lyles, with a time of 9.83 seconds, won gold in the 100 at the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest. Thompson didn't compete.

SBNation's Mookie Alexander noted that while Omanyala is worth watching, his best times have come at high altitudes, likely impacting him at a lower elevation in Paris.

Per FanDuel Sportsbook , Thompson (+125) is the slight favorite over Lyles (+185) to win gold in the event.

Lyles is seeking to become the first American to win gold in the 100, 200, and 4-x-100 relay at a single Olympics since Carl Lewis (1984).

The 2024 Paris Olympics opening ceremony is on July 26. The games run through August 11, with the track and field portion beginning on Aug. 1.

The men's 100 first round is on Aug. 3, with the semifinals and finals following on Aug. 4.
