Brad , 60, and Tom , 62, first clashed when they shared the screen in the 1994 cult classic film, Interview with the Vampire. The Mr. & Mrs. Smith star defined him and Tom as opposites, describing the Mission Impossible star as the "North Pole," while he was "South," according to Closer.

“[Tom’s] always coming at you with a handshake, whereas I may bump into you. There was this underlying competition that got in the way of any real conversation,” Brad said in an interview where he opened up about working on the set of Interview with the Vampire.

Tom’s beef with Brad runs deep, per what an industry insider divulged to Closer.

"There’s a reason they haven’t worked together in 30 years. They clashed so badly when they shot Interview with the Vampire, neither of them has ever been able to move past it," a source said. "They play it down publicly, but it’s no secret they can’t stand each other."

Closer claims that Tom is "unimpressed that Braid will be in the same country" as him and is "annoyed" that he’s working with director Joseph Kosinski. Tom hired Joseph for his 2022 Top Gun sequel, Top Gun: Maverick.

Their contentious relationship is part of the reason that Tom has such an issue with Brad being in the UK so much, even though it’s just to film.

“Tom feels very territorial about the UK so that’s part of it – he’s the last person he wants in what he now sees as his personal kingdom,” per the insider. “Tom takes a huge amount of pride in the fact that he’s totally immersed in British high society, he’s rubbing shoulders with royalty and back in the good books with the Beckhams.”

They added: "As far as he’s concerned, London is his home, so people like Brad, who just want to fly in and out to make a movie or take a quick vacation once in a while, are just not on his same wavelength. But it also really sticks in his craw that Brad’s now working with the same director that Tom hired."

It seems that Tom’s irritated with Brad for more than just being in his new home country, and using his personally hired Top Gun director. Brad’s upcoming movie F1 will also be co-produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, he also produced Top Gun, and Formula 1 legend Lewis Hamilton.

Additionally, F1 is predicted to be as equally successful as Top Gun: Maverick, with speculation that F1 could be Brad’s first billion-dollar film. Brad's potential accomplishment reportedly is an issue for Tom.

"There’s been all sorts of buzz about how Brad’s going to follow the success that Tom had with Top Gun and bring in a billion dollars when this movie finally hit theatres, and that has not gone over well with Tom. He feels like Brad’s purposely stepping on his toes and trying to show him up,” The Closer’s source continued.

"Tom’s taking it as a challenge and letting everyone know he’s going to kick Brad’s butt at the box office. They have plenty of contacts in common so of course Brad is going to hear every word he might say about him and knowing him, he’ll have plenty to say back."
