SALT LAKE CITY ( ABC4 ) — Another week has come and gone since the announcement of this year’s Utah Treasure Hunt, and the $25,000 prize has yet to be found.
Since 2020, each summer, organizers David Cline and John Maxim have released a riddle to guide adventure seekers to a chest hidden somewhere in the mountains of Utah. This year, the Utah Treasure Hunt kicked off on June 15.
Utah Treasure Hunt returns with chance to win $25,000 Every week, Cline and Maxim send out an email with clues to guide treasure seekers in their search. The clues, which often come out on Friday, came out on Saturday morning instead, with the following message:
“Apologies for the late arrival of the weekly clue. Between trying to keep things fresh for everyone and family commitments, it took us a few extra hours. From here on out, we are going to try and give some great weekly clues until the chest is found. We hope these ones can help you on your quest.”
Utah Treasure Hunt 2024 Riddle:

Week Five Hints:
Hint #1:
“There have been a lot of questions regarding measuring the distance you need on the trail in meters. The reason we used the metric system is because once you measure more than 500 feet, it switches to .1 mile and you need a more exact unit of measurement than tenth miles. So the distance you need is more than 500 feet and less than 1000 meters.”
Hint #2:
Cline and Maxim wrote that this week, they thought it would be fun to switch the clues up a little bit. They released an Instagram video for hint #2, writing “there may be a clue or two.”
Hint #3:
“The lobster and ice cream lines do not refer to any kind of shape in the trail. In fact, this may be the first poem we have written where no lines refer to any shape of the trail.”
Bonus Hint:
“The only throw away line in the poem is “lo puede hacer.” This was used only for the rhyme and has no special importance.”
While the treasure is still out there, you can sign up for future clues through the Utah Treasure Hunt website and follow @the.cline.fam and @onthejohn on Instagram.
