There appears to be a tense history between Taylor Swift and a former high schoolmate , as revealed in a controversial TikTok video which has left the singer's fans irate.

Jessica McLane exposed the fact that she and the award-winning artist were schoolmates just when Swift's career was beginning to rocket.

Leveraging the popular social platform, she made a striking statement regarding their classmates' attitude towards her. In the contentious video , she recounted how they were raised in the same locality and went to the same school.

Although she prefaced her narrative by acknowledging her limited knowledge of the multi-platinum singer, she confirmed that they attended Hendersonville High School in Tennessee, USA together.

In the now widely shared clip, she stated: "In 2006, I'm a freshman in high school. Taylor is I think a junior. 'Teardrops on my Guitar' had just come out I think over the summer."

"Obviously, she got really big, and that's the year that she left school and got homeschooled." Jessica subsequently exposed that Swift's rising stardom seemed to dent her school popularity greatly.

Indicating that the majority of her classmates took a dislike to her, she shared: "She's like, literally 16, 17, leaving high school to pursue a career that people were telling her that she could never have."

She added: "Also the guys that she was writing these songs about, they were still in school, they were still there."

"Now they have a hit song about them talking about what a **** boyfriend they are."

But it looks like the tables turned when McLane disclosed that Swift invited all her old schoolmates to the CMA Awards in 2009 as a bold statement.

"She invited us to the CMAs to say **** you. And we deserved it. So to Taylor -touche! ".

Swifties were quick to rally behind their idol, with one fan stating: "Even if Taylor's Dad was financially privileged enough to leverage her career, no amount of money will grant you talent and staying power."

Another supporter chimed in: "The best revenge to your haters and naysayers is....success. And she showed you all that in spades," while another added: "Because she got to have the life that every girl dreamed of having an couldn't and she did it in a badass way."

A fan praised Swift's approach by saying: "Sagittarius energy. We forgive but WE NEVER FORGET."

Taylor Swift , one of the world's top-selling artists with 200 million records sold, isn't just a music sensation; she's also the highest-grossing female touring act. Forbes reports that this pop powerhouse became the first billionaire whose main income stems from music, entering the 'three-comma club' at the end of last year.

Moreover, she's listed as number 34 among America's richest self-made women.

Her most recent work, 'The Tortured Poets' Department', released in April this year, marks the 11th studio album for the 34 year old renowned artist.
