Ayres Sasaki died last week after a freak accident during a concert in Pará, Brazil. He was 35.

The Brazilian singer was performing at the Solar Hotel in Salinópolis, a municipality within Pará, on July 13 when an interaction with a fan caused an electric shock. According to the Brazilian news site Istoé Gente , the fan’s clothing was wet when they leaned in for a hug with Sasaki.

Once the two made contact, an electric shock was believed to have surged from a nearby cable, The Sun reported, with fatal results for the musician. Sasaki died at the scene, according to local media outlets.

The local police station began investigating the circumstances surrounding Sasaki’s death shortly afterward. The Pará Civil Police told Istoé Gente that law enforcement officials were speaking with witnesses to gather information about what occurred.

On July 14, the hotel where Sasaki performed at the time the tragic incident took place posted a statement on Instagram in which it said it “deeply regrets” the loss of the musician. Hotel personnel were cooperating with authorities and communicating with members of Sasaki’s family. The hotel concluded its statement by offering thoughts and condolences to his friends and family members.
