While holding a degree in Marriage & Family Therapy, the future had other plans for Abi Carter. Always having a love for music, Carter eventually gained enough courage to audition for American Idol. Landing a spot on season 22, the singer not only showcased her talent week after week, but she made it to the season finale. Although shocked by even placing in the final two, once again – life stunned Carter when she became the newest winner of the hit series. And wasting no time, it appears that Carter is already giving back to the community that helped shape her future.

With Carter looking to expand her career past American Idol, the singer decided to take a moment and give back. For students at the Academy of Musical Performance, they received a special treat when the American Idol winner stopped by for a surprise visit. The musical program recently partnered with the College of the Desert, which Carter attended.

Abi Carter Gives Students More Than A Performance

Speaking about the experience, Carter said, “I actually performed on this stage. And it changed my life, it helped me graduate college early. Because I graduated college early, I was able to do American Idol.” Besides recalling her connection with the group, Carter decided to gift them with a surprise performance on her new single “Peppermint Sky.” “I actually wrote it about all of my friends in my life, all the all of my women, girlfriends in my life that I have always looked up to and always loved.”

With a day full of memorable moments and a special performance, student Valeria Sotomonte discussed how much it meant to meet Carter. “She’s just a huge inspiration to all of us who are aspiring to do the same thing.” Sotomonte continued, “Believing in what you’re singing. I think that was probably the most important thing that I took out of her talking today.”

Not wanting to leave the students empty-handed, Carter also gifted each of them with a free ticket to her upcoming concert at the Acrisure Arena. With the concert taking place on July 27, Carter not only gifted tickets to the students, but she also stopped by the Eisenhower Medical Center to honor the staff. Wanting nothing more than to give back to those who continuously give to others, Carter noted it “means everything” to her.

While praising the employees, Carter explained, “I know this is just a small thing, but I wanted to give back to all of you guys in the way that I could, which is to give away some tickets to my show.”
