William Shatner revealed that he would not mind reprising his role as Admiral James T. Kirk in the Star Trek sci-fi franchise while discussing his career recently. He made a shocking revelation of his indifference about the show, noting that he has only seen a few episodes of Star Trek.

Shatner said it is almost impossible to make another Star Trek installment. However, he deems the production so iconic that he would not hesitate to be a part of another. He last appeared in 1994’s Star Trek: Generations, after which he focused on his comedy career and starring in TV dramas.

Why does William Shatner avoid seeing ‘Star Trek’?

Unlike his fans, Shatner hates watching himself and is not one to watch television in general; instead, he enjoys documentaries, news, sports, and history, and all efforts from his family to get him interested in certain shows have been fruitless. Ironically, much of Shatner’s work is based on reality programs, sitcoms, and comedy series.

Shatner, who turned 93 in March, once joked about his hopes that a company would freeze his brain and body should a need for Captain Kirk arise in a future production of Star Trek.

    Shatner reflects on his life

Shatner has been very reflective on his life and career in recent times, expressing his thoughts during interviews and his latest book release, Boldly Go: Reflections on a Life of Awe and Wonder. He detailed his emotional experience in 2021 aboard Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin New Shepard space-bound vehicle, on which he made history as the oldest person to reach space.

He told Variety that he has only a little time left alive, hence his reasons for going all out in life. The father of three has lived a long, full life despite suffering various health issues, including skin cancer and tinnitus, which was the result of a loud blast on the set of Star Trek. Over the years, Shatner has become accustomed to the constant ringing in his ears from the long-standing injury.
