Brazilian singer Ayres Sasaki has died after being electrocuted partway through a live performance.

The tragic incident occurred Jul. 13 at the Solar Hotel in the city of Salinopolis after a soaking wet crowd member came on stage and hugged the 35-year-old musician.

Contact between Sasaki and the fan triggered a nearby cable to jolt, leading to a fatal electric shock, The Sun reported.

The singing sensation died instantly. He is survived by his wife, Mariana, whom he wed just 11 months ago.

The full extent of the fan’s injuries have not been reported, and it remains unclear why they were wet in the first place.

Salinopolis police have opened an investigation and officials for the Solar Hotel say they are cooperating with authorities.

In a post on Instagram, the hotel added: “We are fully dedicated to providing support to Sasaki family… We reaffirm our commitment to fully cooperating with the competent authorities for the proper clarification of the events.”

Meanwhile, tributes have poured in for the performer.

Singer Adriano Freitas stated: “We were friends in daily life, beyond music. A super charismatic guy, his talent was incredible. A great friend, very family-oriented, attentive to his friendships, and to those who appreciated his work.”

Comedian Natto Almeida said the musician will be remembered as much for his off-stage kindness as his on-stage skill.

“What will definitely stand out about Sasaki is his good heart, very polite,” he stated. “I think this will be the lasting mark he leaves behind.”
