KINGSTON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Families made memories Saturday morning at the Inaugural Kids Discovery Day and Touch-a-Truck and Community Expo.

Hosted by Casa of Luzerne County and the Luzerne Child Advocacy Center , this free community event saw kids seeing, climbing in, and exploring their favorite first responder, military, and construction vehicles.

In addition, community service providers were on hand to share valuable information about opportunities to volunteer and help less fortunate children in NEPA.

“We are both advocates. We came together and said ‘What can we do to give back to all of these families?’. So that’s why we decided to do this little event, which turned out to be a pretty big event. We have already been talking about next year so we are hopeful to be back out again then,” explained Mary Kay Pivovarnik the executive director of Casa of Wyoming Valley.

The first 100 families received a swag bag.

Being a volunteer advocate is a rewarding and fairly flexible experience. Reach out to Casa and learn how you can make a difference in a child’s life.
